Chocolate Raspberry Cake

12 ingredients
- 2 cups Flour
- 2 cups Sugar
- 1 teaspoon Baking soda
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon Baking powder
- 3/4 cups Water
- 3/4 cups Buttermilk
- 1/2 cup Shortening
- 2 Eggs
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
- 4 ounces Chocolate (unsweetened)
- 3/4 quarts Raspberries

Preheat oven to 350 F.

Grease and flour baking pan (13"x9"x2" or 9" or three 8" round layer pans).

Mix all ingredients (except for raspberries) in mixer for 1/2 minute at low speed, then beat for 3 minutes at high, scrape occasionally.

Pour evenly into pans while interspersing layers of raspberries. It's smart to keep the edges & top free of raspberries so it doesn't crumble (using just one pan makes this easier).

Bake as follows: 40-45 mins if using one pan, 30-35 minutes if using three pans.
