Corn Bread

8 ingredients

  • 1/4 cup Shortening
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar
  • 1 cup Flour
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 4 teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1 cup Milk
  • 1 cup Yellow cornmeal

6 steps

  1. Preheat oven to 425 F.
  2. Grease a square pan (8x8x2 or 9x9x2 inches).
  3. Blend all ingredients together for about 20 seconds.
  4. Beat vigorously for 1 minute.
  5. Pour into pan and bake until golden brown (20 to 25 minutes).
  6. (note: if using self-rising flour, decrease baking powder to 2 teaspoons and omit salt)
